Time Machine

Hey does anyone have history using time machine on a mac and then cloning a safety copy.

I have time machine running to an external drive as the destination. I want to keep that as is but also have a clone of that drive which I update weekly.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I was going to clone the disc and then update the weeks backups going forward.
