I would travel back in time to last night, to follow the "Tommy sent me some pictures of dead bodies" - thread live.

I would travel to Bammer's wife when she turned 18.

You’re just asking for regrets.

I would go back in time and eliminate the concept of regret.

Going back in time before you were born would risk altering things to the point where You might actually cease to exist so I wouldn’t want to do that. I guess I would just like make myself rich somehow but I’d have to avoid coming into contact with myself because that could destroy the universe or whatever. I don’t think there’s any guarantee that when you try to return to your normal timeline you can succeed. Chances are you have to leave everything behind and start a new life and let your former self continue their life. So you have to sacrifice yourself to make them rich, the one in the other timeline. I guess you could find a way to rip them off and steal a lot of their money after they’re rich.

If you travelled back in time (let's say today August 17th 2022), no part of you would remain behind to carry on your life past that point, unless you got to that point after the travel.

I don't know about that. It's complicated. When you do go back to the "current" time, who's to say when that's actually occurring. Time is mysterious. Especially after you change the past, that version of you that went back in time kinda ceases to exist, the way you knew it, so the actual current you just carries on being rich and doesn't actually go back in time

People say they would kill Hitler but I don't think they've considered the potential consequences. How do you know what will happen to the world if he ceased to exist? I'd say the fact that civilization is still functioning, we're in good enough shape to not risk it. If you try to go into the future to see the consequences of what you've changed, you might actually end up in a future of nothing but hellfire and accidentally kill yourself.

If I travelled back in time one week. Hung out at a beach, then went home after the time I time travelled, I would not expect another version of myself to be in my apartment.

I don't know, Anders, it's hard to say.

Here's an idea: go back a week or so and bet a shitload of money on teams you know are going to win or whatever, and then murder your other self and carry on with their life.

I could do the betting thing, but wouldn’t want to kill myself. He would need to get his own RM account though.

I just don't think you've considered how consequential it is to step foot in the past. You've effectively created a new timeline and the possibility of resuming the other timeline is only theoretical, iffy at best. There are two yous now, and if you don't kill your other self, you'll have a lot of work to do to prevent all sorts of unwanted problems.

Going back in time would be a huge risk. You could really fuck the whole world up.

that's what i'm saying

here's what you do. you have your time machine, you wait til (if) the world gets really fucked up; some catastrophic virus or whatever, THEN you go ahead and go back and change the course of things in a new timeline

I would go back to college and take that semester abroad (Spain). And sure throw a few bucks into Alphabet or Bitcoin or whatever. Besides that, no changes.

If I could go into the future … I wouldn’t.
