I’ve been seeing quotes this morning saying Nikki Haley with be the first South Carolinian to be elected President since George Washington. Now I’m not any kind of Washington scholar to be sure, but I can’t think of any ties he may have had with South Carolina. He was Virginia thru-and-thru. Right? Am I missing something?

South Carolina’s former state GOP chair Katon Dawon, a Haley supporter, told the Post that it is notable that “Nikki Haley is probably our first South Carolinian since we voted for George Washington that has really had a chance of being president of the United States.” Trump’s campaign will “run into that history,” he added.

She’s not saying Washington was from SC, she’s saying Haley would be the first South Carolinian since the founding of the country who has a chance to be president since the country was founded.
