Two fairly similar songs, in their meditative storm and stress. Both songs I admire more than I love in a think vs. feel kind of way. Both very good, but these were maybe ranked 6 and 7 of the previous 8. Voting Tremor Christ for now but these both need a good listen. I'll often deduct points from Insignificance because of its lackluster live history, but it's not like Tremor Christ is Given to Fly

I have always loved Insignificance. It's a song I don't ever consciously think is, say, a top 5 or top 10, but when I listen to it I can't imagine why it doesn't deserve to be. It's a perfect studio track. I'm sitting here today wondering if it's my favorite song.

I've also always dinged it a bit for not being as good live (or better, as Pearl Jam has tons of songs that elevate in that setting, so it's easy to start applying that standard). But it's still pretty great. Ed flubs the lyrics quite a bit, and I hate if he misses the line, "The plates began to shift." And yeah, they do the thing where they cut the lights and pause an extra moment after "...let the song protest." None of that is ideal.

But a lot of live versions are pretty mindblowing when they come crashing out of the bridge. This Kansas City version from 2000 is the one that's always stuck with me the most.
