Has your favorite band/artist been your favorite for many years? Have you had a favorite for a long time and then another swoop In and take the number one spot?

I would say Sigur Ros has come close but not quite taken over just because of the amount of life experiences i have associated with my favorite band, Pearl Jam.

My favorite band changes every 3-5 years. I barely give PJ a thought anymore, but they held the title for a good 10 years or so.

Pearl Jam was IT for a long, long time. Then I really got into Steely Dan not quite 10 years ago. It flip flops between them now probably.

my current favourite is Sleep Token, but my previous favourite was The 1975; what I want from my music generally has changed a lot since PJ ran my life

I listen and discover new artists (or artist new to me) all the time (well, sometimes) but it's hard for me to count anyone I haven't been listening to for twenty years (since high school) in that top tier. I sincerely can't envision having the love I have for Tom Waits, Talking Heads, or Elliott Smith for some artist I discover in my forties.

I can’t imagine I will ever have the same emotional connection to anything the way I do with PJ.

I spend half the concert with my eyes closed just soaking up the energy.

How old were you when you decided Elvis Costello > The Cure?

I have gone through many fave bands in my time, like Burt it probably changes every 3 to 5 years or so I guess. PJ will always be top 3 for me but others come and go too.

There's just sooo much great tuneage out there. Listening to new music is fun as hell!

Mogwai is probably my favorite in general. They just consistently put out amazing stuff (except maybe Rave Tapes).

But at certain points I would have said The Sword, Protomen, and Sturgill Simpson.

this is pretty much where i land too.

PJ always finds a way to pull me back into its orbit, but I love listening to music in general.

Used to be PJ but its sad I'm over it. Almost everything about Eddie annoys me now I'm hoping at some point that will flip back. I listen to a lot of 70s R&B/Funk/Soul stuff which I thought was super stupid when I was younger. I was listening to the Isley Brothers yesterday. 20 year old me would have hated it. Its good stuff though.

Purple Mountains/David Berman for sure. I didn't think I would still get so excited about new music at this stage of my life, but that album hit me hard. It's one those albums that, after first listen, you know the songs are great but that they also require multiple listens to really "get them".

It's also Berman's suicide letter, so unfortunately there won't be more Purple Mountains music. But if I'd now have to pick my all time favorite albums it would be there, over 3 years since I discovered the album.

Love music listening in general, the wider the spectrum the better.
I have a roster of 5 (active) that constantly take the top spot:
Pearl Jam, QOTSA, Arctic Monkeys, Elvis Costello, Jack White.

when I had my record store in the 90s I was always all over new music..I kept it up until probably 2008 or so and then just kind of quit for no reason..I have no idea what is out there these days..I still go to zeppelin, Neil, Dylan, etc...the only vinyl I order these days are reissues of 60s blue note jazz..when the radio is on at home its always classical...get off my lawn
