Why does it need to be done

I ask this non confrontationally, as someone who only drinks about once a month I'm curious what a month of no drinking accomplishes

Drink often bad. Change need. Don't drink often? Not bad. No change need.

Thank TED for my talk.

But it's a temporary change, right? If you're only doing it for a month. Do you go right back to regular drinking? Does it "detox" you or something? How is it useful?
