What music does your family listen to?
Parents, siblings, spouses or children. Share the good, the bad and the inexplicable here.
My 21 year old brother loves Morrissey solo but can't stand The Smiths.

Re: What music does your family listen to?
My brother and dad don't really listen to music. They are totally strange and only interested in working their asses off and then drinking beer and watching tv at the end of the day. I bet neither has bought a record/cd since they were teenagers. My mom likes Jackson Browne, Dylan, ect......but she also has some pretty crappy records in her collection like Loverboy and Bryan Adams. I guess people bought stuff like that in the 80's....

My Dad likes The Who, Josh White, Lindisfarne and Ray Charles. Other than Paul Simon, classical music stations and (inexplicably) KT Tunstall, I'm not sure what my Mum likes. I have no idea what my older brother likes now; he used to listen to Ben Folds and Jamiroquai, but hey, it was the late 90s.

My father was almost exclusively opera and classical, with the occasional show tune thrown in.

Re: What music does your family listen to?
I have this memory of being in my dad's old brown GMC pickup truck. The kind of truck that didn't have power steering. And I was pissed off because he wouldn't let me turn on the pop station. And Bob Dylan's Rainy Day Women was on the station he was listening to and I was arguing pretty hard to change the channel and he just kept turning it up louder and louder while singing along louder and louder over my desperate, 6 year old pleas.

Re: What music does your family listen to?
Earliest memory is sitting in the car (land rover) listening to Bob's Desire and BOTT. On repeat for what seems everytime. And I apparently sang along to both of those albums.
My family all share a love of B Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Band/Robbie Robertson solo, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris. In fact, Dylan live in both 98 and 2001 was attended by both my divorced parents. Too lazy to buy tickets and for Bob they tolerated each other.
My father - Pink Floyd, Led Zep, The Who, Lindisfarne, Strawbs, Fairport Convention. He has seen PJ live too.
My mother - Bob Seger, Meatloaf, Elton John.
My Bro used to be into the same 90s music as I plus U2, Simple Minds, GnR, Big Country, Charlie Sexton. Now I have no idea but I'd guess still the same.

Re: What music does your family listen to?
As a kid, I was always awoken to my dad's music on the weekends....
spitty crackly records or 8-tracks with a 1/2 plastic knife wrapped in electric tape jammed in the side....
those red 8-tracks that you could record on
hank Williams, freddy fender, dean martin, johnny cash,
I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden
lemon tree, very pretty
mule train
500 miles.. away from home, away from home, cold and tired and all alone...
my best memory is when my dad announced one night that the family was packing up and going to visit relatives in Jersey (in the middle of that very night)--
I remember laying in the rear window area (where kids laid when they were small in the 70s), looking up at the moon and "moon river" playing. There is no memory that quite compares.
Very good thread, btw
