Two worthy finalists, and I'll no complaints with whoever wins. This may be the horse I ride to the end. But RVM cleanly takes this one for me. It's been my greatest late fandom rediscovery

Animal is a 2.5 minute burst of energy while Rearviewmirror just keeps building to that epic finale. I’ll take RVM but it is is mighty close. Both top Pearl Jam songs for me and define in my brain what I think Pearl Jam sounds like.

RVM was the first song I ever saw them do live.

Easy vote for Animal. RVM is fine too.

I agree with everything you've written here except Animal is my greatest late fandom rediscovery. It and Wishlist are the 2 songs that have grown more for me over the last few years than all others.

MTV music awards Animal is still probably my single greatest moment as a fan

Every video I've seen of the MTV Awards performance, Jeff is way too low in the mix. You can barely hear the bass.

yeah, I've never been nearly as in love with that particular performance as other folks have been. I think 1992 me was actually a little disappointed in it, but that's because I was primed to expect 5 minute anthems and Animal (and Vs as a whole) was partially about resetting expectations

I voted for "RVM" -- it's more of a shapeshifter, contains more multitudes, is more of a PJ song for all seasons, while not without its share of the same raw grit that "Animal" possesses.

Plus, we didn’t hear it until 1993.
