Credible threat of violence

Let's say someone here PMs another poster with a credible threat of violence or even murder. What would be the appropriate response? Should the mods be alerted? Or the police?
What would you do?

You did write credible, but I’ll partly ignore that, and say that there are three main options with various ways to handle it, even inside those three:
1. You see it as a tough talk, banter, and either ignore, go for peace, or respond in a similar way.
2. You do see it as a really angry nasty attack, but they live far away, so you’re not afraid they will come to your house. However, it might be time to notify the mods.
3. It’s a credible, legit threat, you fear for your life. The bar for this should be very high on RM. But if you genuinely do, notify the mods and the police.

Standard RM policy would require a run of bad song puns be involved at the very least.

The mods can't help you, what are they going to do? I mean, if rudd was standing next to you, he would definitely help you. But he's many miles away. You should tell the mods so they can ban the user, but also take precaution in the real world

I think you’re underestimating ruddo a bit.

What kind of real world precautions? Like a shield or something?

A gun, a hired guard, pepper spray, move apartments, whatever you need to do. Stay safe, we need you
