Animal vs. Immortality

Both top 10 essential PJ but Immortality at it's best has it all.

Animal is great but Immortality is essence of Pearl Jam in every way.

If I could only pick one 3-song group from any of their records, it may be Go/Animal/Daughter. I love Vs. but it peaks very early (and that's one of the peaks of their career). Immortality is a really good song, though I've always rated it lower than I think most would. Animal's a pretty easy choice for me here.

Obvious caveat that your mileage may vary, but for me, Immortality contains atmospheric Pearl Jam, bluesy Pearl Jam, blazing empassioned Pearl Jam, the whole nine yards. Animal is an awesome frenetic funky rocker, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but to me it represents a very particular side of Pearl Jam, the same way a song like Blood does. I love those songs, but they are not "essence of Pearl Jam in every way" songs to me.

I voted for Immortality, but if it was close I probably would have switched to Animal. I think it's better than two time winner Go.

And it was my first realization that this band was different than other bands for me. Circa late 1993 for me. Over 30 freakin years ago.

It was this performance that mesmerized me, they would replay the Animal performance like a music video for the song, since there wasn't another one. I had it recorded on VHS for many many years
