It's winter here. But I'm traveling to Europe for work and a wedding in a few weeks so I'm gonna get some summertime.

Haven’t skated much since I broke my wrist last year but I’m hoping to get back into it this summer.

I’m on summer break.
I’ve read two books: Pedro Paramo and House of Spirits. Combined, that sounds like a Latin Harry Potter book. 100 Years of Solitude is next.

Here are the things I’m most excited about over the next few months:
Playing pickleball
Eurocup
tv: Bridgerton, The Bear, House of Dragons, Cobra Kai
Trip to Italy
Concerts: Limp Bizkit, REO Speedwagon, Metallica, maybe Janet Jackson
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. I’m determined to play it.
I’m going to read Hamlet for the first time since college.
And I have 4 baby turtles ranging in size from a dime to a half dollar. Trying to get them to survival size.

There is a hog in me . . . a snout and a belly . . . a machinery for eating and grunting . . . a machinery for sleeping satisfied in the sun—I got this too from the wilderness and the wilderness will not let it go.

There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried with shoals of herring . . . I blew waterspouts with porpoises . . . before land was . . . before the water went down . . . before Noah . . . before the first chapter of Genesis.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

I’ve never seen Limp Bizkit. They’re not a favorite or anything, but they were huge when I was in college and I associate some great memories with them in the background. I’m going to this with a college friend. $20 and it’s outside.

I’ve never seen REO Speedwagon. They’re playing with Train (I have seen) and the opener is a cover band called Yacht Rock Revue, which is the center of my current wheelhouse. This I’m seeing with my wife and an older colleague (55) and his wife. $20 and in the same place as LB.

Metallica. This is two shows. This is my youngest son’s favorite band. Over the past two summers we’ve gone to Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Montreal to see them. Super excited to see them and then sleep in my own bed 30 minutes later.

Rhythm Nation was one of the cds that rotated regularly in my parents’ 5 cd changer. Tickets on the secondary market are embarrassingly cheap for Janet - Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty - and the venue is ten minutes from my house.

Missing Gin Blossoms (never seen) while abroad and I’m a little bummed about that.

I’d love to end summer with PJ at Wrigley. Might be out of the budget tho.

I just ate an amount of sabra supremely spicy hummus only a man who doesn’t have to leave the house tomorrow would dare eat.

I'm seeing if it's possible for both my kids to be on two different little league baseball teams, and coach both of them.

Plus several Mariner games, of course.
