Bands you love but you're comfortable not seeing live again

Elvis Costello is probably my favorite musician of all time but I've seen some videos of live performances from the last couple of years and it's really rough. He appears to have lost control of his voice and he's often flailing wildly for the correct key, not to mention singing wayyy behind the beat. I think seeing him live like this would only exasperate me and bum me out, so I think I'm comfortable sticking to his studio albums (he still sounds great on record).

I love Pavement and they were here a few weeks ago and I just didn't feel the slightest itch to go.

Pearl Jam, The Sword, Black Keys (cuz they suck live)

Paul McCartney, The Black Keys, Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Gary Clark Jr., The Gaslight Anthem, Foo Fighters, Orebolo. Seen them all and got from those shows what I wanted/needed.

Conversely, bands I have seen and want to see at least once more: Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, My Morning Jacket, Goose, Marcus King, Billy Strings, Dogs in a Pile, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead

Bands I have yet to see and really want to: Phish.

Just saying you are hanging around outside some small club or theater and you find out they are playing there and here’s a ticket, you should go. Also, Jagger sounded really good this tour.

I stopped going to shows after Petty died... seeing his last shows at the Hollywood bowl was a good send off..figured I was old enough and have seen who I wanted to plus I just hate going to concerts now..if I stumble into some pub with live music thats fine but done with the big shows

All of them pretty much, not worth the time/hassle/money. Last show I went to was Tool with Killing Joke five years ago

I love listening to live music but very little else about the concert experience -- from the ticket expense to the time commitment to the crowds -- really appeals to me at this point in my life. Like Doug, if something cool and low-key shows up in my backyard, then cool, but most of the time I'd rather just hang out with my family.

My last show was one of the Nick Cave Q&A shows, I think that was in 2019. Pretty much just didn't get back into the swing after COVID.

Funny that’s coming out in this discussion. I have been coming to the realization that the cadre of bands and music I most have wanted to see live certainly are hitting the last vestiges of their careers. The question becomes whether a new stock of bands replace them or does it just whittle away?

To me it's not a lack of good music to go see, it's just a sense of fatigue relative to the experience and the environment. Though I suppose that sense of "OMG, I have to see this band just so I can say I was in the same room as them" is not something I'm likely to feel anew at age 41. So I guess in some senses, the urge does just sort of fade.

Well I know I’m in the last years of going to shows. I’ve seen most of my favs bands and artists multiple times so I’m blessed with that.

It’s never been about being in the same room. It’s always the experience of seeing and hearing the music in the moment and live. It’s what has drawn me in since 1996 at my first show. I have really enjoyed the Essential Live Albums thread for myself in large part because it gives me some level of the experience (obviously doesn’t replace the real thing) when I can’t go every day. Honestly, I really enjoyed going to a free cover band this past weekend where I could set up my camp chair, sit with a few hundred folks and sip on some wine while the band played. The B Street Band was pretty good too, all things considered.

Interesting. Maybe I'll get to that point later down the line but I still get a tremendous thrill from live music, it's one of my favorite things in the world and I go to shows almost every week. But there are certain artists I love that I'm just okay with skipping for a variety of reasons
