Help finding an NPR story
I was listening to NPR, I think it was last weekend or the weekend before, probably on a Sunday, and there was a story a woman told about opening her home to a strange couple and growing to become a famiily. At first she was quite apprehensive about it, but someone the couple knew died and she learned it was a friend of her kids too who had died, and that happened to bring them all together. I was wanting to play this for my wife because I think she'll like it quite a bit, but I can't find the story anywhere. I don't think it was a Moth Radio Hour episode, browsing through the recent episodes. I'm having troubel finding it. Does anyone who frequently listens to NPR know what program this was from and which episode? Thanks in advance.

Re: Help finding an NPR story
StoryCorps is only on Friday mornings tho. I guess his local affiliate could replay it on Sundays.

Re: Help finding an NPR story
Does your local affiliate not have a listing of what shows are on Sunday mornings? That should narrow it down.

Re: Help finding an NPR story
I browsed through all the episodes of every program listed on my local station out of St. Louis and it isn't anything listed, including StoryCorps episodes on or about the days and times I would've heard this story, and I didn't see a match listed anytime at all within the last few months. So maybe it was a rerun of something from a long time ago.
It felt like at least a half hour, but could've been an hour. I was very busy with dishes and mopping the floor and spending time with/taking care of kids while listening to the station all day long. It's like a blur to me now, but I do vividly remember it being like a theme of several stories put together about something like, heartwarming stories of people coming together and shit. I really just thought if I threw this out there somebody else would've been listening recently and recognized it and told me what it was. But maybe it was some kind of local replay anomaly of some old shit not listed in error or something. Oh well. If we don't find it, don't worry about it guys. There are better things to do with our lives and we should consider the opportunity cost. But if something pops up, just keep an eye out because I would really like to play this story for my wife. It's very heartwarming and nice.wease wrote:Was it a full half-hour or hour episode, tree__?

Re: Help finding an NPR story
I think within the same block of stories a man with a heavy English accent was discussing his ideas for housing the homeless and explaining how we got here, with too many people betting on and making too much money from the market, etc. Maybe that'll ring a bell for someone out there.

Re: Help finding an NPR story
I stopped listening to most public radio because everything got so fucking depressing; it seemed like each show was trying to out-misery the other. I downloaded TAL weekly until every episode began with: “This person got hit by a truck and then also got the plague and a plane crashed into their house and their kids spontaneously combusted. Their story, told in five parts. I’m Ira Glass. Stay tuned.”

It's mostly emotionally manipulative "human interest" bullshit like that, masquerading as actual journalism.
