Bsides, Xmas Singles, Fan service

When I became a fan of PJ, I was surprised by the amount of material outside of the official albums: b-sides, singles, bootlegs, etc. It was a big part of the appeal. After Avocado, it seems that they completely set aside that part of their identity and became secretive about their unreleased material. They even stopped releasing their Christmas singles, and it's been 20 years since Lost Dogs.
Is there any official explanation?

They don't write and record as much material anymore.

i think they prob had a combination of:
- Less finished-grade b-side product available
- More reluctance to share near-finished songs bc the lead time between albums extended and they wanted to keep songs available for future use
- Pearl Jam started to suck

Well, they don't release them that way either.

They release more stuff as solo albums and collaborations with other artists.
The only solo album we had pre-Lost Dogs was Bayleaf, and that was only 2 years prior to Lost Dogs.
Since then, we've had 3 Vedder solos, a Cameron solo, 3? Ament solos, a Gossard solo, a few McCready movie scores, and a smattering of EPs and such.
All that music would have been sitting on the Pearl Jam floor as cut material prior to the PRAMG era.

yeah, they explained something around Backspacer came out, that they were mostly trying to release everything they had in the album. Which is always a lie of course.

they all had kids
leading to PRAMG
leading to solo albums
leading to seven year album cycles
leading to stadium tours
culminating with the band playing glorified g live on stern

Ed hates playing that song because it's about guns.
