Deaths that would devastate you the most

It’s macabre, for sure, but I think most of us are at an age where we are seeing the reaper carry off many famous people we first became aware of when they were young or fairly young. Thankfully, most of the deaths are age appropriate. Gene Hackman, for example, will eventually die, and none of us will be surprised or upset because he was in the middle of filming.

What people of public note would have the most impact on you at this stage if they passed? Here is my list:

1 Tony Kornheiser or Michael Wilbon. Been watching/listening to them my entire adult life. They’re my Johnny Carson.
2 Any of Pearl Jam’s 5 current main members. They will all hurt equally. Well, not true. Jeff will hurt the most. I love Jeff Ament.
3 Tim Daly or Steven Weber. My favorite tv show of all time already has ghosts. I still watch episodes regularly. Either of the two leads dying will alter that experience.
4 Any of the Seinfeld main 4. I feel like this isn’t far away, and it makes me feel like I’m not far behind.
5 I used to think Harrison Ford dying would bother me. He’s old af. I don’t think any movie star will bother me too much. I think Michael J Fox will actually hit me the hardest, for various reasons. Anyway, I’ll put the members of Metallica who aren’t the bass player at 5.

Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, Gene Ween. They're all mid-to-late 50's so hopefully that won't be happening any time soon.

This is a thread about celebrities?

I will get LOTS of texts when Eddie Vedder dies.

What will hurt the most … Ken Griffey Jr.?

Other than Pearl Jam and a few others, mine are probably mostly sports related. Rickey Henderson, Jordan, Gretzky.

was thinking about this yesterday

Ahnold
Harrison Ford
Eastwood

They've all lived full and creative lives that I can only dream about, but their deaths will be the ultimate death of my childhood.

Most of my heroes (Norm, McAfee, Burt) are already dead.

After Bourdain, Carlin, and Albee I'm not sure who's left that would really hurt from the celebrity community.

Probably Margaret Atwood and Stephen King. Oh! Tom Waits.

So those guys still breathing air is why your mind is trapped in late adolescence!

My sister is a nurse and through COVID medical folk reportedly used Keith Richards as a marker of sorts

That doesn't answer your question but it's still funny.

Her and I and my kid saw the stones end of May this year and when Keith walked out onto the big screen she was so excited.

"Yay the world is still here"

I'd be sad if some of my favorite / most influential artists died but I can't think of a celebrity death that would "devastate" me. Like I'll be an inconsolable mess when my dad dies. When Elvis Costello dies I'll be bummed out for half a day.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Impossible. He tagged with Mr. T to defeat Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper at WrestleMania I.

so one of these people dies. do you mean that, at least for a specific period of time, you're mourning and acting differently around other people, and then still feeling some effects despite some time passing since her/his death? I can't imagine any person dying other than people that i actually know that would affect me like that.
