Movie: Hannibal

I watched this again last night. Moore has no business being as good as she is as Clarice but the whole thing feels like a missed opportunity by not bringing back Demme and Foster and an overhauled script that ignores a lot of the book.
Is there an appetite for an Old Man Hannibal movie?

What I hate about this movie is the weird stuttering blurry slow-mo Ridley Scott uses several times.
IIRC Demme and Foster opted out of returning after reading the novel. Understandable as the novel is fucking crazy

I love this movie. It’s fucking nuts. I love when Ridley gets really unhinged and nasty. Much better than Silence IMO

Lol. Classic LV.
I also love this movie but definitely not better than silence. Julianne Moore is pretty great and
Gary old man and ray liotta are great as well.
True story- I also enjoy red dragon
Been awhile since I saw Hannibal rising though....

Ridley Scott > Jonathan Demme all day every day. I’ve said this before but I don’t get the love for Demme at all. He’s never done anything for me.

It's a big drop-off from Silence in terms of quality but it towers above the two next movies in the series. Don't think I like it quite as much as Manhunter either

Manhunter is very easily the best Lecter movie

I've been thinking about this and I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing. The book is very grotesque and excessive and makes the movie seem very tame. Would the wilder parts of the book have translated well to the screen? I don't know

The Hannibal show got so up its ass by the end there. I'm glad it stopped when it did, it was getting unbearable

Has anyone here ever seen Hannibal Rising? I think it should be more widely recognized as one of the greatest cinematic missteps of all time, it is awful

Silence was good, specially when it came out. Everyone who loved the genre embraced it because it got to the oscars in a moment when those movies were not being produced for the big studios.
Hannibal is wonderful. weird, crazy, over the top wonderful.
Manhunter is a masterpiece of mood, vibe and Tom Noonan´s performance is one for the ages.
Red Dragon is a lifeless remake.
The Hannibal series is very fun and well made and Mads Mikkelsen was an awesome Hannibal.
Never saw the Rising movie nor i will ever in my life.

I think the original intent was to more closely follow the book which is what Demme and Foster had no interest in, the end in particular. It was later dialed back. I think the Verger sister could’ve fit well but probably would’ve been redundant to Kordell. Not to mention you likely would’ve needed to add the child abuse elements back in. No thanks.
The book is gross in multiple ways and turned me off but credit to Harris for that big swing of an ending.
