Ooof. It says something about how little I like Santa Cruz that I'm voting for a minor Beatles cover over it

Who cares? Neither is going any further.

Santa Cruz, I guess.

I've always liked their "I've Got a Feeling" cover. The Den Haag version was on one of the first bootlegs I owned ("Covering Them '92-'93"), and I knew it before I knew the Beatles version. I enjoy some of the lyric changes they put into it ("everybody made a movie/Jeff Ament had one line -- no, two!/everybody misses Andy/we'll be seeing him in no time"), and some of the ending jams on the early versions are awesome.

It also bears the distinction of being the last song I will likely see the band perform live (closer at Wrigley 2016), so it has a weird full circle thing for me. And of course I love the original.

"Santa Cruz" sucks, one of their worst.

I'm sorry for saying it sucks, Anders.

I do like the way Santa Cruz is light and airy and tossed off and would argue that kind of toss off works better than much of Backspacer’s toss-offiness
