People that back into parking spots

This needs its own thread now, and I'll explain why.

I witnessed yet another space backer inner at the hardware store this weekend; literally every adjacent spot around them was vacant, and they're slowing backing in like their life depended on it. I couldn't process what I was seeing, and quickly parked like a normal person so I could witness the remainder of the exercise to try to make sense of it.

Was this a training exercise, like when your parents took you to an empty lot to practice driving? Could it be that these shitstains are teaching others now?

The world is on fire already, we don't need this too. Time to take action.

Do you guys judge cars that you think are backed in but actually pulled through to park? Because I do that all of the time if available. The backup warning on our EV is terribly loud, so I avoid reverse at all costs.

Big fan of the pull-thru.

Big hater of the back in.

i was pulling into a (diagonal) spot yesterday, and there were two cars on either side of the open spot so i couldn't see beyond the back of the spot. as soon as i cleared the left rear bumper of the first car i noticed the car pulling through from the other side into my spot. i stopped thinking he would just back up and let us both have our spots. nope. he sat there waiting for me to back up and give him the spot. i motioned for him to back up, which he reluctantly did. we both got out and he said "you know, you're in my spot," as if he was doing me a favor. i thanked him for his parking etiquette and for letting us both have spots rather than just him and went on my way. and then i stewed for the next 4 hours or so.

Totally. And the older I get, the worse it gets.

so much easier to back into a spot, where there's not a bunch of cross-traffic, than it is to back out of a spot, which is rife with activity and blind spots.

my wife swears back-in parking is republican-coded.

at least the people she works with who identify as trumpers/gop back into spaces.

I don't see the big deal here. You're stopping traffic one way or the other whether you back in or back out. Backing in makes more sense for the individual because once you're done shopping, you can just pull right out.

Why don't more people get annoyed with people backing out of parking spaces?

Because that’s the right way to do it.

Rear cameras have negated this issue.

Because 99% of people who back in take way longer than it would to pull in forward, blocking traffic flow for longer in the process. And the more people doing it - which seems to have severely increased the last few years, the more chaotic and disruptive it becomes.

The majority of rear cameras have excellent wide angle coverage now. You can see people or cars coming up on your 4 and 7 like two spaces away. And if not, you simply slowly poke out like a foot and you can generally see anything coming.

I disagree with this.
