A very easy vote for Alone, which is top 10 material for these ears.

Exceptional early 90s Gossard riffage.

I'm not sure Given to Fly cracks the top 50.

A year ago I would have voted for Alone.

Given to Fly edges it out by the squawk in the middle of the song that still makes me think someone is yelling out for me to answer them from another room.

In the sequence of Yield, Given to Fly is pretty close to a perfect song. The tempo, the slow build coming on the heels of outro of No Way, the warmth of the guitars. In that context it's assured and not needing to try any harder than it does.

It loses some of its shine in a live set these days, but is it in fact fair to criticize a formerly great [song] for its latter day sins? Is it better to burn out than to fade away?

When you are actually in the room, given to fly has not lost a step.
