Jut finished this. Just under 2hrs and most of it is focused on his early years. It's quite the story and the biggest surprise was how much he and Phil Hartman worked together.
I thought it ended quite abruptly but turns out it's a 2 parter.

We’re almost finished with the first episode. It really is a great doc. I didn’t realize Hartman joined the Groundlings so early. Or that Elvira was in it. Or that he and Laraine Newman were there together.
Also didn’t know Hasselhoff and Katy Sagal were in his art school acting class.

I had no idea there was animosity between him and Hartman.

Mediocre doc. The formula of streaming docs is so fucking boring. Just static talking heads and archival footage. Yaaaaaaawn.
Second episode was definitely more interesting than the first, and I appreciate the record being set straight on Reubens's legal issues (read: bullshit railroading). But as a work of filmmaking, this thing is a total non-entity.

the dude just died. they're not trying to blow your mind, they're trying to solemnly, respectfully show his life as he was, the way he wanted. i respect that, but i agree it wasn't a mind blowing affair... but again that's the goal and i respect it. the dude is dead. weeeee i'm talking in circles!

Paul's final recording, with just audio, his voiced weakened, a day before his death...that hit harder than anything else for me.
