“Face” never even entered my mind. I don’t hear the “s” at the end of the word at all.

But seriously, it is weird that you can't hear the "s" at all, what with Ed's famously crystal clear diction and pronunciation.

pain doesnt make much sense. or it would in a more expansive song, but animal isnt that song. its far too direct and in your face (ha) for that
