I do as well. Even if I was born many years after the war, we heard about it in class all the time, on tv all the time, people were around that remembered it. I do think it's a little different for younger people. It doesn't seem to be as much in their mind, as it was in ours. Of course there are plenty of movies still being made about it, and they will also learn about it in history class.
Been following this day by day these last few months.

I’d love to detach and be unaware of all the posthumous media and nostalgia around it, which only ever glorifies it in one way or another. It’s all propaganda with no basis in reality and ultimately diminishes and even erases all the lives lost and sacrifices made by so many.. Saying that as little or none of them actually show what was being fought and what was at stake. Heck none of them even show the outcome and the horrors found afterwards.
Band of brothers aside, that comes closest on all counts but it’s still from an angle and a soft soap on the reality of it in the ways the matter. It’s entertainment though so what do you expect.
Still a great series though. Need to watch it again. My pal watches it once a year. Not a bad idea.

When it comes to entertainment/movies made from the war, it differs wildly, from the absurd to the realistic, even to pure pop. I do agree that Band Of Brothers is a wonderful mini series. But I do think it's far from the only one. There are plenty of good movies made from the war. Of course the atrocities were awful, so I can understand seeing the entertainment aspect of it as a negative, even if it's been 80 years.
Sadly post-WW2 was still filled with atrocities. Stalin and Mao, got millions of lives killed on their watch. You've had the Korean war, the Vietnam war, civil wars in Nigeria and Congo, and plenty of other conflicts or famine.
Today you have the conflicts in Israel/Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and more.
You should think defeating the Nazis would make the world a more peaceful place.

It’s hard not to thinking about the social-psychological environment of WW2, considering we’re living (at least in America) something very similar now.

I watched The Keep last night, so at least once. Hard to believe that really happened.
Been following this day by day these last few months.
Right after my daughter was born and I had a lot of time just sitting on the couch, I got into a YouTube series called The Great War, which posted one video per week that covered what happened during that week 100 years before during WWI. They did eventually do the same thing for WW2 (although not matched up so many years later), although I never got around to watching it: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsIk ... 9k3grY_kYd
