This can be a general discussion if anyone wants to, but I have a specific question:
Every time I go to anything remotely social, our AI overlords are loading up content trying to convince me that there's an anti-white-girl conspiracy against Caitlyn Clark. Clips of hard fouls and claims of "CC just demolised Angel Reese in this postgame interview" while not actually having licensed the interview in question so it's just a bunch of content-creator blather.
Is there anything to this in real life?
My only other experience with the WNBA was watching some of a game in the championship series in 2024 with my oldest son. We were both absolutely flabbergasted at how poor the quality of play was. So many missed shots, bad passes, frantic ineffectiveness, and turnovers. Like I literally couldn't believe they were getting paid to play that quality of basketball on TV.

Yes racism is real. Yes Fever fans behave in inexcusable ways.

I'm a huge W fan. I can provide my bonafides if you need. I was at CC's home opener in Indy last year. I'm a Liberty fan and season ticket holder.
FWIW, I'm also a big CC fan. I'm also a big Angel Reese fan. The thing I love most about the league is the inclusivity and the way players transcend a home fandom.
For example, my favorite player in the league is A1. She doesn't play for NY and that's okay. She's amazing.
CC fans and bandwagon Fever fans specifically don't understand what's great about the W and they have created a super toxic environment. So, to answer you first question, yes.
To address the rest of your post, you're absolutely wrong. The W is peak sport. I'm sorry you don't appreciate it but it's awesome and far better than anything the NBA has to offer.
I imagine you also think women shouldn't vote.

Oh, come on, Joe. People can not like women’s basketball and still be ok.

What The fuck? He made an observation. Maybe it was uninformed off of one game, but come on dude. Not everyone is a woman hating misogynist just because they didn’t get the same enjoyment out of it.

I get a lot of CC content on Instagram. I enjoy watching her play. I think the AR stuff is mostly media fabricated. Saw a good Jemele Hill clip yesterday where she said AR doesn't have an issue with CC, just that she can't have her own persona in the league, CC is always brought up to her in press conferences and interviews.

I think dime has you all on edge.
That last line was genuinely supposed to be funny. It's clearly absurd and over the top. I would have added a little laughing or tongue out emoji but I didn't think it needed it. That's on me.
Genuinely sorry I offended you guys. That really wasn't the intent. Ivc, especially. I didn't mean that to come across the way it did. I apologize. And I want o thank you for starting this thread. It's long overdue.
Of course it's totally fine if you don't like the W. I'd encourage you to go to a game (especially in Brooklyn) if you get the chance. It really is a different vibe and a ton of fun.
Anyway, sorry again, team.

i think that if AR didnt stand up and clap when CC was body checked the media and fans might be a little easier on her but just a little. all AR has to do when CC is brought up is say I wasnt aware we played her tonight i must have missed that. add to that the times AR has flopped and whined to the media that she is also the reason people are watching the WNBA gives off a serious me me me vibe. at least to me.
that foul from CC was a good foul. wrap her arms up so she doesnt make the shot. the push was a little extra but i didnt think it was Flagrant worthy. compare that to the times that AR has fouled CC and tell me the difference. also compare AR's reaction to getting fouled by CC and then AR getting choke slammed to the ground and tell me what is different.
it is ok to be jealous of CC's attention but dont act like you are the magic johnson to her larry bird

It's a very good sign for the league that the CC discourse has reached the mainstream. A quarter of the internet is fueled by the Lebron vs. MJ debate, so her success brings all that baggage. There's a long history of leagues going through certain eras where superstars dominate the headlines, TV ratings, and debates. The W is relatively young, so it's ascension aligns with the timeline of more established leagues.
Many of the things Epilogue likes about the league could also be said about the NBA and many other sports leagues (liking individual players outside of your own team, inclusivity, etc.). But it's ok to prefer a specific league or level in any particular sport. It's another thing to say it's "peak sport". That's pure subjectivity. College football is my absolute favorite, but I'm not out here saying the SEC championship is better than the Super Bowl.

guys, the AR is purely performative. the wnba, like the nba, like the nfl . . . is in the business of entertainment. AR cracking CC across the head and then standing over her and urinating is strictly to help the media create a storyline. and there's nothing wrong with that. it draws eyeballs, and it makes AR to be a villain, a role that she is obviously embracing. every team in every league needs a bill laimbeer.

I thought we all agreed awhile back that we didn't need to add "imo" to every post. Obviously it's my opinion if I'm saying it. Everything we talk about here (music, sports, TV, movies, politics) is subjective. And to me, the W is peak. They're isn't another sports league is rather watch. Others will think that's nuts and that's fair. These things probably shouldn't be objective.
But also if you like it more, why isn't the SEC Championship better than the Super Bowl? I've seen some insufferable Super Bowls, man.

Of course you don't need to add IMO to every post.
You said it was "peak sport", but then provided no specific reasons why the on course product is superior to everything else.

That's fair. I guess I was referring to the experience. Not that they are peak athletes that are far and away better than any other athletes in any other sport. "Peak sport" as in I've never had more fun watching any other game, especially live.
On top of that, I think the pace of play, the physicality, and the level of defense (generally), game in and game out, is superior to the similar products like the NBA. Especially during the regular season.

Also, the environment is awesome. The crowds are so diverse. The energy is so different because it's a lot of women and queer people. A lot of kids, too. It doesn't have that hyper masculine aggressive feeling. It's more supportive and inclusive and less angry (again, outside of some bad CC bandwagoners who just want to be shitty).
The games are super competitive without being mean spirited or domineering. And the fans generally are the same way. Like when the Sky first came to Brooklyn last year, T Spoon got a standing ovation for well over two minutes. And Angel was cheered when she scored her first basket. Game recognizes game.
And at least at Liberty games, fans know their shit. They are engaged and knowledgeable. I learn a lot every time I go. I don't know, the whole vibe just works for me. I love it.
