This band just can't hang onto drummers.

Unironically, I think the band should hang it up at this point. I don't want to see an entire tour with someone like The Felon on drums.

Damn, just chewing the fact I'll never see the same Pearl Jam live again.

Wow. Dark Matter was his best album IMO. Don't think PJ was a particularly artistically fulfilling endeavour for him, tho it certainly kept a roof over his head. New drummers have always helped the band to evolve their sound so let's be optimistic that this might herald another interesting shift in their music.

From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.
He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings. It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we wish him well always. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music.
We love you Matt.

Top comment on the band's post:
Matt probably just got tired of all the woke stuff Pearl Jam kept pushing.

Im seriously in shock...
My guess is that he was just tired to touring. He's stated in some interviews that the it's a physical hard job.
He will not quit music, just short project with some shows. I mean, he's rich enough to do whatever he wants...
Stone will probably first call his Painted Shield buddy 'Matt Chamberlain' now...

I can't see them getting a permanent replacement now. It'll be a revolving door of hired guns. They're just too inactive to have a new full-time drummer.
