The music industry is killing the music

Surely Shirley (Shirley surely?) is correct about this. Here's the thing.

There are a million young dreamers out there with rock star aspirations, basically a never-ending supply. If you're not willing to kill yourself working for free as a musician for a chance to make it big, fine, there's a very long line behind you. Move on, you're replaceable. That one kinda popular song you might have had, who cares. The next band in line will come up with something just as marginal and they're willing to do it for $12/month. Once they burn out, the machine will move on to the next.

What I'm saying is, endless supply of musicians and dreamers willing and ready to walk into this reality. They're expendable.

So lame. Sad.

Huge, HUGE respect to any band that's out there touring. It's a hell of a grind, surely.

We can simply have the machines make the music for us now. This will free us up to work on our spreadsheets.

I'm not going to that Facebook link, but if there is an endless supply of musicians and dreamers, the music is not getting killed. That's the opposite.

As music culture, support structures and infrastructures decay, the art - or at least certain types of it - fades.

I don’t. My son and I were listening to Aja on the way home from his guitar lesson earlier this week. Music hasn’t gotten better since then. There hasn’t been a song produced in 2025 that I would rather hear than Deacon Blues.

In all seriousness, new music is one of the last good things left on this shithole planet. There are so few things that keep me going, thank fucking god music continues to be wonderful.
