The most famous historical farter is Roland the Farter (or Le Petour), a 12th-century English jester for King Henry II, rewarded with land for his unique Christmas performance of a "jump, whistle, and fart". Later, in the 19th century, French performer Joseph Pujol (Le Pétomane) achieved international fame at the Moulin Rouge for controlling flatulence to create musical sounds and impressions, becoming a pioneer in flatulence performance art.
