Garden vs Porch

Garden is my daughter's favorite pearl jam song (maybe second favorite - could also be Dark Matter) and that makes me feel good as a parent. But Garden is my least favorite song on Ten. And Porch is top 5 in the catalog, maybe.

Whatever emotions Alive can sometimes generate are raised to the nth degree with this song. One of the band's all-time greats.

Garden feels like a more mature version of Black which is odd since they're on the same album but whatever loss or wound is expressed by this song, is perfectly delivered by the music, heavy and powerful, with an excellent solo. I also like the idea of a garden of stone meaning the vast orchard of riffs grown by Stone. Not at all what the song's about but I like it.

I'd really like to give this to Garden, but it's Porch.

Porch will win, but Garden deserves the victory.

Easy vote for Garden, but unfortunately I expect it to lose.
