Angel vs. Breath

Angel is lovely, and felt like such a discovery when I finally heard it on some $50 boot. But Breath is as good as just about anything from that era.

One of the first times in PJMM history that I can remember stopping to think about whether or not to pick something over Angel....

Not a huge fan of either of these.

Angel, I guess, but really only for the novelty factor.

Breath is a Dave K song.

Breath

Breath is an incredible anthem, back when the band could do no wrong. The guitars have a rich, unique tone and once again, Eddie delivers a heart-on-his-sleeve performance with lyrics drawing the listener in, building to yet another incredible climax, with: "...I would take you there..."

Amazing.

However, Angel is something even more amazing. The strange chords and weird music Dave came up with are the perfect backdrop for Eddie's lyrics, a performance of longing and loneliness that is haunting, and yet, somehow builds to a hopeful conclusion.

It's something so special to me, I rarely listen to it, so I can preserve the feelings I experience when listening to it, that leave me in goose bumps. The song's moved me to tears on many a listen and that' something rare enough to savor for as long as I can.

Angel.

In The Moonlight is so fucking good. Top shelf stuff right there.

I really dig Angel. But it’s not upper tier for me.

All three of those songs are way better than Breath

I forgot to put Sunburn in this thing, but I also don't think there was room in the bracket.
