I adore both of these, but in its prime I had Comatose at 5 stars (that first run of 3 songs was maybe my favorite 3 song run in the catalog for a few years). Yellow Moon never made it quite that high.
The opening moments of Yellow Moon is some of my favorite mood setting in the catalog. How it feels so open and expansive yet vaguely claustrophobic at the same time. It paints a very vivid picture in my mind almost instantly. It's always felt cinematic to me.
But it's still Comatose - Pearl Jam's most feral album track

Easy vote for Comatose, Yellow Moon is awful.

Yellow Moon by a zillion.
Comatose is second only to Habit in songs I never want to hear again and wish didn't exist at all.

The "two songs that are transparent attempts at sounding like older, better songs" matchup

Yellow Moon is better than the older song. Comatose isn’t.

Yellow Moon is not better than Low Light. And I have no idea what Comatose is being compared to, but it can't possibly be worse. Unless it's Habit.

Comatose < STBC

Low Light is maybe the worst song the band had released at that point, and Yellow Moon is many leagues worse again.

Wait, do people associate Comatose with STBC?
That feels like the world's biggest "DUH"
Because STBC is LEAGUES better.

That whole vein of Jeff's songwriting - Low Light, Nothingman, etc - just really doesn't do anything for me.
Kind of dreary but also cloying.
(I'm being a little over the top, I would listen to Low Light in preference to either I'm Open or Stupid Mop.)

Wasn’t Comatose the one that was originally known as Crapshoot Rapture before the album release and people were saying it’s STBC 2?

certainly the first half of that is true
the stbc comparison makes sense, though
But comatose is better

I hope my playfulness is clear in my previous response.
While I don't totally agree, I do totally understand what you're saying.
The hyperbole is one of my favorite things about the PJMM tourney every year!

But don’t you love NAIS?

I think the best way I can describe sections of the vocal delivery in comatose is constipated.

Why else would it have been named Crapshoot Rapture?

Comatose is good. Yellow Moon is fine.
