I was listening to the Pearl Jam satellite radio channel while on a road trip last weekend, and a song I didn't recognize came on.
It sounded like an Abbruzzese era live improv perhaps. It's an uptempo song with a heavy driving repeated guitar riff and reminded me of "Alone", and had a chord change which reminded me of "Education". It is more complex than a typical improv, but not quite a proper song. I could see it being labeled as "improv" on a setlist, although it's probably a live version of a demo that didn't fully develop into a proper song. It is possible it's a cover song, but I'm doubtful of that.
I strained to hear the lyrics but couldn't make them out, but my best guess is "slowly rising" was a lyric which was repeated at the beginning of at least two verses. (the chord change which reminds me of "Education" occurs during the "slowly rising" bit, and sounds similar to the chord change which occurs during "my education" in "Education")
The song didn't appear to have a chorus, but an earlier verse was repeated at the end.
It was definitely a live recording. It was definitely Pearl Jam and not an Eddie side project.
I looked on pearljamlive.com for improvs from soundboard shows in the 90s, but for some reason some the recordings of some of them are missing from the sets. Of the improvs I heard, it was none of them.
Does anyone have any clue what I might be referring to? It was a really cool song, and I'd like to find it. It's not every day a Pearl Jam song I've never heard comes along, especially a cool one.
Thanks!

Doesn't sound familiar. Of the earth is the only song I can think of that might have ' slowly rising' in. Could you guess the year based on eds voice?
If you're committed you can try searching improv or improvisation on pearljambootlegs.org. Might take you a while though

I don't get Sirius, but can you check the tracklist of what was played on the station?

No doubt it's Of the Earth. I also think of Education during parts of that song. "on the 'rizon, rise and fall, slowly rising (?), rise and fall..." something like that.

It's Of The Earth, thanks all!
I thought it sounded older and had Dave A drum sound. Probably a side effect of the diminished sound quality of the radio, making it sound older.

yeah I was actually hoping they would (for the first time in years) release it as a b-side from LB, I'm not buying that it's "never been properly recorded in the studio" or whatever BS BoB has stated before. Unfortunately, I think the chances of that happening are about as likely as me banging Emily Blunt today.
