The worst closer vs. the worst opener.

This is a tough one. River Cross is one of those songs that I don’t know if a more robust band development would have helped, but it feels kind of incomplete - like Eddie listened to the RMers complaining about Gone (demo) vs. Gone and decided just to put it out there.

Getaway is a serviceable rocker but like much of Lightning Bolt, feels like it’s paint-by-numbers Pearl Jam, but in that photocopy of a photocopy way.

Both have their issues and flaws, but I give River Cross the vote on ambition and effort, even if it needed more email exchanges (from a woodshed) before finalization.

I had forgotten it opens Lightning Bolt. In my head, Mind Your Manners was the first track. And should’ve been. What a fucking snooze-fest these two are. They just should’ve been automatically eliminated without wasting our efforts on them.

I love River Cross, but it's so tied to a very specific place and moment I rarely listen - I am trying to preserve that experience.

As one of the biggest Lightning Bolt fans you know, I too think that Getaway is just a little generic and paint by numbers, and I am always surprised how many people flag it as their favorite on Lightning Bolt

I agree here until the verdict. I'm going Getaway.
