Astral Weeks has been just slaying me lately.

Fact: "Madame George" is one of K. Stew's favorite songs. I thought you'd like to know that.

That song literally just ended.

I loved that album in my late teens early 20s but haven't heard it for well over a decade. I'll dig it out one day a see how it fares.

"Astral Weeks" is marvelous.

My personal favorite is "Veedon Fleece," from six years later but really the first time he returned to that rambling, stream of consciousness style of writing for a full record since "Astral Weeks."

"Haunts of Ancient Peace," the opening track from 1980's "Common One," is in the running for my favorite studio recording of all time.

His cover of Kermit the Frog's "Bein' Green" (from 1973's "Hard Nose the Highway") never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Probably one of my all-time favorite artists, though at some point I hit a wall and stopped collecting his albums. Nice to know they're still out there to get someday.

I was just talking in another thread a week or so back about how I've been listening to a shit ton of Them lately.

What a goddamn sound that band had.







I've also been really into Tupelo Honey and St. Dominic's recently.

Astral Weeks is pretty amazing, as is Moondance. Felt the need to post here since Glad Tydings just came on the iPod (prob one of my favorite VM songs)

Honestly, my knowledge of Van Morrison is Astral Weeks, Moondance, and then the well known hits. I'll have to check out Veedon Fleece since the stream of conscious style is one of the traits I find most endearing.

His "Last Waltz" performance was ridiculous.

Anyone listen to the 2008 remaster of Veedon Fleece? Should I download that over the original or not?

I could never understand why Into the mystic, off Moondance, wasn't on astral weeks. It's a perfect fit.

Astral weeks is a genius work. Moondance is pretty great too.

To my knowledge, the 2008 remasters were the third set of Morrison CD editions. There were the original issues, a first set of remasters, and then the 2008 remasters. I haven't heard the 2008 version of "Veedon Fleece" but I have been told by Morrison aficionados that the difference between the original CD version and the first remaster is profound, the remaster being the preferred version.

I wonder is there a (suitably fucking cranky like the man himself) forum somewhere dissecting and over analysing all Vans work?

The difference between the original and the first remaster or the original and the 2008 remaster?

Between the original CD edition and the first remaster, which a little research seems to indicate is from 1997. I don't know how the 2008 versions are regarded in comparison to any previous editions.
