Terry Pratchett

Post by stip »

Here we go Sarah. This is a safe place.

Is the long earth stuff a series? I only have one book.

To be honest, the only one of his non discworld projects I ever really liked was Good Omens. Actually Nation was decent, and the diggers/truckers series was cute .

There's a second one, The Long War. I haven't finished it
I want to like it, but it just doesn't last with me. I can usually go back to Pratchett over and over again.

I loved Good Omens (obvs, I'm a Gaiman fangirl) and Nation made me cry.

Have you read The Carpet People? It's kind of cute too.

Excerpt From: Terry, Pratchett. 'Good Omens'

I've been meaning to hop back on the Pratchett train but I'm tied up with George RR Martin for now.

I think my five favorites would be small gods, going postal, night watch, feet of clay, and maybe the truth or lords and ladies. The guards series is my favorite. Never hugely into the wizard/rincewind books.

Oh wait. Interesting times might be a top 5 because the silver horde is brilliant

I have around six books queued up right now but I'll order small gods - with as much reading as I do these days, I'm bound to get to it in a couple weeks.

It is a fast read.

You will need to know that discworld is a flat circle held up by 4 elephants carried through space by a giant turtle to understand one of the major sub plots

I'm mostly a Rincewind/Wizards of UU guy myself.

There are a few dragons scattered throughout. They aren't any sort of focal point, though. You'll be fine.

The books are all social satire. Small gods is about the nature of religious belief, for instance.

I assumed as much based on good omens - although I know that was co-written. still, I have a feel for the style I think. I'll let you know what I think. sounds fun though.

I didn't until I started reading. Granted that was 1995, but still...
