I know there are Soundgarden threads, but his body of work is just insane. I love more songs by Pearl Jam than any other band, but I love more songs by Chris Cornell than any other singer. The sad thing is, I am not even familiar with the pre-Badmotorgfinger work because I can't get past the old production quality. I saw Soundgarden for the first time this year and they played some of those oldies, and they were fucking awesome. Next week I'm seeing Chris on his solo acoustic tour, and I couldn't be more excited.

Badmotorfinger - 9 - Because it's just not as good as Superunknown or Temple of the Dog.
Superunknown - 10 - This is a perfect album.
DOTU - 7 - I dislike much of the second half.
King Animal - 8 - A year later and this is holding up well for me.

Euphoria Morning - 9 - It fades a bit in the second half, but only slightly.
Carry On - 7 - I don't get the hate for this record. There are some great songs on it, and the Bond song is tits.
Scream - Ugh. I never made it all the way through. His lows are as fabulous as his highs.

Temple of the Dog - 10 - I got this after Ten. I remember my initial disappointment that Eddie only really sang on one track and that the Birth Ritual guy sang the rest. Now I like this album way more than Ten.

Audioslave - 9 - The expectations that came with this "super group" were met. This is a great rock record and was formidable live.
Out of Exile - 7 - I'd likely go higher if I listened to it more often. For whatever reason, I never do.
Revelations - 3 - I think that's how many songs on it I could tolerate. He was right to jump ship.

Just a couple of comments for daft twat:

If you can hack the production on BMF then you should be able to stomach Louder Than Love. Same producer, pretty much the same approach sonically (not enough bass guitar presence, next to no drum presence) on both albums.

The combined Screaming Life/FOPP release is excellent and - in terms of production, performance capture, etc - sounds very good. You should get into that.

The second half of DOTU has a lot going for it. It probably features the best material on the album (TT, Overfloater, Switch Opens, BC, etc). I'd recommend paying more attention to those tunes than the singles from that record. BUTOW has not aged well.

I'm disappointed that you rated the first Audioslave record anywhere near BMF, DOTU, KA or TOTD.

The SG albums are light years ahead of the Audioslave material, but the self-titled AS album was pretty bad ass. Temple of the Dog is a masterpiece in my mind, always will be, one of my favorite albums ever and probably Cornell's best vocal performances on record. Euphoria Morning is not far off behind TOTD, greatly underrated IMO. Carry On was mostly boring and overproduced. Scream was an abomination of all things holy.

His solo tours are quite good, excellent even, highly recommended for any one who's considering going. I saw him in DC in at the sixth & I synagogue back in 2011, I swore he hit notes so high and powerful that I thought some of the stained glass was going to shatter. Dude can still wail like a motherfucker.

King Animal is kind of just above average to me. There are 3 or 4 tracks that I would throw into an SG playlist, which to me is a triumph for a reformation band.

And yeah, I should take your advice. I won't apologize for loving the first Audioslave record, though. I played the shit out of that, and I never skip any of those songs on a shuffle. And btw, the gap between a 10 and a 9 is a chasm. 9 is something I really enjoy; 10 means it's in my top 10, which is where totd and superunknown are.

Im a big fan of Cornell´s career...looking back he had big missteps these last couple of years, but overall he is a magnificent songwriter.
His SG years are all top notch, not only because of his talents but because his bandmates are great songwriters as well, hence the idea that his strongest material is when he collab with someone else.
Susan Silver speaks a little about that in the Grunge is dead book, it seems after EM he was not feeling confident about his material and, again formed a band...(even if EM is actually an album made with Eleven)..and the Audioslave years were strange and weird but there are real gems there, specially in their first album.

I have a hair-brained theory that I kind of believe.
Most men cannot sound anything like him when they sing, so if you're in the car and trying to rock out, you wind up sounding like a half bitch, which puts you off. And lip synching is unsatisfying. On the other hand, turn up the volume and pretty much every dude thinks he sounds like Eddie Vedder while he's singing along.
