This is a black mark on Vitalogy. It never should have existed

I love this song. It's one of the most creative things this band has done, and perfectly articulates the tumultuous time around this album. Ending such an emotional, raw album like Vitalogy was perfect.

I think I've listened to Stupid Mop in it's entirety two, maybe three, times. It doesn't appeal to me on any level. I'm not offended by it, I just couldn't care less about its existence.

Exactly this.

One of the best things about this song has nothing to do with what it sounds like. It's that Pearl Jam was the kind of band that would close their album with this, instead of the more obvious and safer choice of Immortality.
Brendan O'Brien would never let this shit fly with modern Pearl Jam, and it's to their detriment.
A little bit of weirdness can go a long way.

Yep. Jeff kills this track.

that's true, but we already had Bugs, which is great, and clever, and fit in with the album.

I wonder how Inside Job would sound if someone took the music and overdubed the stupid mop voiceovers

I also like what this says about the album thematically. The subject of Immortality doesn't get the release or escape he wants, instead he ends up institutionalized.

Completely agree. And consider who Pearl Jam was at this moment in time. They were arguably the biggest band in the world, and they released an album with this, Bugs, Pry To. They were pushing boundaries creatively, and pushing patience boundaries with fans and, I'm sure, people at Epic.
Wasn't there something in the PJ20 book, or an interview, about the recording of this song? And how BoB was completely left out of the loop, or locked out of the room or something? He hated it, but they wanted it on there.

it's not the idea of stupid mop that bothers me. I'm just not particularly impressed with the final product

I hate when people praise it just because its creative. Id rather it be good I dont care if its creative. Unless its creative and good. Immortality was the better choice to end the album, Pearl Jam not doing the 'safe' (sensible) option and instead doing this is not really a plus just because it was a creative (stupid) thing to do
