Ed is just a dickbag. He has been for years - maybe always - though if that's the case, he masked it well for a couple of years. I've been to multiple shows where he's had sand in his vag about something, and the irony is that no one fucks up more often than he does. He is the least professional musician I have paid more than $10 to see. I don't think being friends with Sean Penn helped at all.

That dude who started that thread on the Pit is a douche. Ed and Rick have been known to go at it from time to time. I have a feeling he wasn't very good at his job but was a Ramone so Ed was hooking him up. Here is a couple examples of Ed not thrilled with him. I think it's just their relationship.
