Is the Joshua Tree>Achtung Baby run all I have to worry about?

I'd start with War(or live - Under A Blood Red Sky), then TJTree and then Achtung Baby. If you don't like any of it give up.

Just Achtung Baby to start. No reason to multi-album a band you have no stake in.

yeah but the fun of Achtung is watching the progression of the band and seeing the left turn they make with it.
so i'd say Joshua then Achtung if you want to keep it limited.

zooropa anyone?
I was never a huge fan of U2 but liked that album because it includes lemon, numb, and some days are better than others

absolutely. i just wouldn't start there. that's also part of their cool progression. looking back it's amazing a band like U2 put out a record like that. lemon is awesome.

lemon is probably my favorite U2 song because it's so different from them.

I remember hating it when I was young b/c it was so different. Now I think it's one of their better songs.
Youth is wasted on the young.

Achtung Baby is a masterpiece. But every album of them have 2 or 3 great great songs.

War is good, Sunday Bloody Sunday is actually the stinker on that album. Unforgettable Fire has Bad and some other decent tunes(title track). Joshua Tree is overwrought but not bad. The new songs on Rattle and Hum are pretty good, All I Want is You a personal favorite.

Coincidentally, I went through a similar thing a few weeks ago after hearing Lemon somewhere and remembering how much I love that song. Bear in mind, however, I've professed on many occasions that I hate U2 so I wasn't approaching the matter with an entirely clean slate.
After listening to Zooropa and finding it surprisingly okay, I ventured further and put on The Joshua Tree; I think I lasted a matter of seconds before my brain started screaming "OH GOD TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF" so, hey, I guess I still haven't warmed to U2 (well, apart from that one song/album).

Zooropa is my favorite album by them. One of my ten favorite albums of all-time as well.
Why wouldn't you just start with Boy? It's one of the great debuts of all-time. I Will Follow, Another Time, Another Place, The Electric Co., Twilight, Out of Control, A Day Without Me...fuck it, the whole damn thing is great.

Miracle Drug is good...but goddamn if Stay(fareway, so close) is not their greatest song ever.

I like Numb.

It's pretty remarkable to think that they released Numb as the lead single off of that album. It's like if the first single off of No Code was I'm Open being performed by Stone instead of Ed. Even if you hate them, that's a move very few bands would have the balls to pull off.

yeah, they used to do that...they were pretty bold. Numb is such a good pop song.

After a couple of hours with this band I'm pretty certain that they have no deep cuts. It's singles or GTFO.
