Greatest Hits Selection
While I thought the Lightning Bolt tour was very good, my primary complaint is the same hits seem to be played. I understand if Alive is played at every show since it's the single song that best defines PJ. I also understand the band tried to play a rarity at each show. I'm trying to say that I would prefer if the "higher hits" were played less often and the "lower hits" were played more often.
Lightning Bolt Tour had 25 tour dates.
• Once 7
• Alive 25
• Even Flow 19
• Jeremy 9
• State Of Love And Trust 12
• Animal 6
• Go 10
• Dissident 3
• Rearviewmirror 15
• Spin the Black Circle 9
• Corduroy 18
• Not for You 5
• I Got ID 4
• Hail Hail 4
• Do the Evolution 22
• Save You 4
• Black 14
• Breath 4
• Daughter 14
• Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town 15
• Immortality 6
• Better Man 16
• Nothingman 9
• Who You Are 0
• Off He Goes 3
• Given To Fly 22
• Wishlist 7
• Last Kiss 5
• Nothing As It Seems 2
• Light Years 1
• I Am Mine 4
• Man of the Hour 3
• Yellow Ledbetter 10
The "Hits" from Avacado
World Wide Suicide 2
Life Wasted 3
Severed Hand 4
The "Hits" from Backspacer
The Fixer 1
Got Some 10
Just Breathe 7
Unthought Known 15
It also seems the "rocker" from the past 3 albums are disposable - Save You, Worldwide Suicide and The Fixer all got no love. I believe all 3 were the most common song from their respective tour.
Given how set-list-diverse the band tries to be, they could do a better job juggling hits.

Re: Greatest Hits Selection
I disagree. Every show is going to be somebody's first show, and while there are a lot of veteran fans they also throw in rarities as well. You can't just only appeal to the cult fanbase. Honestly considering the amount of people going to multiple shows is pretty small (though larger than most bands) it's lucky they give as much variety as they do. songs like Do the Evolution and Elderly Woman that are massive crowd favorites should be played a lot so that more people get a chance to experience it. It's not like every show doesn't have a ton of obscure ones as well.

I'm not saying don't play the hits or play rarities instead; I'm saying play their other hits instead of the common hits.

Re: Greatest Hits Selection
Regardless of what they play, they should just be well rehearsed. Stop this one off rarity nonsense. If you want to bust out a few rarities per short tour, that's fine. But decide before hand what they are, rehearse the hell out of them, and play them most nights.CopperTom wrote:I'm not saying don't play the hits or play rarities instead; I'm saying play their other hits instead of the common hits.

Re: Greatest Hits Selection
It's all about getting people to multiple shows, buying multiple boots and following their sets like they are important.
But I agree. There are 10-12 tracks that you are almost guaranteed to get, 8 of them definitely.

I thought Otherside sounded alright in Worcester. Though I haven't heard the recording yet.lowlight79 wrote:Lament wrote:Chud is so right about this.cutuphalfdead wrote:Regardless of what they play, they should just be well rehearsed.

Re: Greatest Hits Selection
It wasn't great, but it wasn't close to "total fucking shit," either. Especially if you were there, you know, hearing it live. I think you guys are mixing up going to a show and listening to a fucking bootleg. A bootleg. Not even a live album. The diversity of setlists is the only reason I would ever think about going to another show. If I knew they were just gonna play the hits, why would I bother? Answer: I wouldn't.lowlight79 wrote:Lament wrote:Chud is so right about this.cutuphalfdead wrote:Regardless of what they play, they should just be well rehearsed.

Re: Greatest Hits Selection
I couldn't tell you the last time I sat down and listened to a bootleg. I have virtually no interest in listening to live recordings. There's a huge space on the spectrum between playing "just the hits" and playing obscurities for the sake of obscurities. I would rather see them nail Brain of J. or Hail, Hail or Immortality or Insignificance or I Got Shit for Xth time than watch them fumble through Sweet Lew or Bee Girl or some other dumb fucking song just cause I haven't seen them play it before. In fact, other than Undone and Swallowed Whole there's probably not a single song I haven't heard them play that I would be genuinely excited to hear, but there's a long list of stuff I've seen them play plenty of times that I'd be thrilled to see them play WELL.Self wrote:I think you guys are mixing up going to a show and listening to a fucking bootleg. Re: Greatest Hits Selection
Sorry, I disagree, maybe I went overboard with Otherside. But the bootleg is the source. It's going to the massage parlor with the lights on and see how ugly the asian lady really is before she gives you a happy ending. Being at the show and hearing it, that's going in the dark.Self wrote:It wasn't great, but it wasn't close to "total fucking shit," either. Especially if you were there, you know, hearing it live. Agreed. But diversity is another matter.Lament wrote:There's a huge space on the spectrum between playing "just the hits" and playing obscurities for the sake of obscurities.
There are a lot of better examples of "obscurities," than Sweet Lew or Bee Girl. Fuck, why not throw Stupid Mop in there? Maybe I wasn't too clear. I rarely am when discussing things I'm not passionate about. Maybe I mean rarities, as opposed to obscurities? Could be, yanno. I'd love to hear to All Those Yesterdays, Around The Bend, Satan's Bed, etc... And if Ed forgot a lyric or two because he was two bottles deep, I might even forgive him. Shit, I might be two bottles deep and not even notice until Spenno and Chud pointed it out.Lament wrote:I would rather see them nail Brain of J. or Hail, Hail or Immortality or Insignificance or I Got Shit for Xth time than watch them fumble through Sweet Lew or Bee Girl or some other dumb fucking song just cause I haven't seen them play it before.
What's that list look like? How many mistakes do they have to make before you don't consider a song played "WELL?"Lament wrote:In fact, other than Undone and Swallowed Whole there's probably not a single song I haven't heard them play that I would be genuinely excited to hear, but there's a long list of stuff I've seen them play plenty of times that I'd be thrilled to see them play WELL.
