Soul Coughing was such an interesting band. Funky, jazzy, upright bassy, textured, ear candy. They were a truly unique band. I can't believe it's been 18.5 years since they released an album. Mike Doughty has put out a ton of music since then. Some of it is pretty great, but the loose and funky rhythm section of Soul Coughing brought a special something that he doesn't quite have as a solo artist. That said, Mike's "Haughty Melodic" album is wonderful. It's full of great songs and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I'm surprised Soul Coughing never jumped on the reunion mania bandwagon, they were actually really fucking good.

Mike left the band because he HATED the other dudes. Like, aggressively. So much so that he even refused to play any Soul Coughing songs at his solo shows for like 15 years. Songs that he wrote. I'm not at all surprised they haven't reunited. And that is a bummer because they really were great.

Mike Doughty was interviewed and did a live performance on the morning show of the station i listen to, and his interview was extremely annoying.

I totally get that. Personally, I really enjoy his voice. But if you don't like it, it's almost impossible to ignore or get passed.

Try Haughty Melodic. It probably won't change your opinion, but if anything will, it will be that album.
Doughty's follow up to Haughty Melodic is pretty great too. It's called "Golden Delicious". These are some of my favorites. (A post in progress... and I'm finished.)

Yeah. He just kind of needs to be ignored as a person. I love his music and that's really all I care about.
