It's getting a lot more soulful in OB these days, isn't it?
The floor is yours, Skitch, since you're on a roll with your Temptations clips tonight...

The first version of that song I remember hearing was the Paul Young cover, so when I finally heard the Jimmy Ruffin version I was like "WAIT! THIS SONG IS...FUCKING GREAT! WHO KNEW?"

I love when people post the isolated vocals for stuff like this on youtube. It's unreal how good these performances are. Holy shit.

Its amazing how old vocal groups didn't need "runs" or other flourishes to show how amazing they were. Couple those voices with the Funk Brothers and you have something incredibly special.

If Ruffins #1 all time voice, I have a hard time putting Paul Williams anywhere other than 1a

Its pretty amazing the transition that these groups (temptations, Gaye, Wonder) made from pop to socially conscious funk.

It really is. They get nearly enough credit for the artistic growth they went through in their careers. It's a shame. If they were rock bands no one would ever shut up about how much they pushed the boundaries of their sound.
Oh, Mother of Mine is so good. Damn.

I know this one isn't quite on par with the actual temps stuff, but its when Kendricks and Ruffin did an album in the 80s, and for some reason I love this song

There's some seriously revolutionary post-Ruffin stuff, like I Can't Get Next To You, Papa Was a Rollin' Stone, and 1990.
