given the choice these days I'd probably rather listen to mankind, but I went with In Hiding.

One of PJ's best vs. a song that gets way more shit than it should, but In Hiding it is.

I had to listen to both these again. I don't hate Mankind, but In Hiding is the better tune.

Sorry, Stone. I'm too emotionally tied to dropping acid.

Don't feel bad, "In Hiding" is a Stone song too. This is a win for him either way.

In Hiding sours me quite a bit but there is nothing to like about Mankind.

I like Mankind a lot more out of context. When I listen to Bayleaf, I'll sometimes put Mankind in the mix and I really enjoy it. It's a fun song with some really bizarre images, which I like.

But In Hiding is majestic.

For all the talk of PJ lightening up on their recent records, Mankind, to me, actually sounds like a studio track where they really are having a good time. Maybe the fact that it was Stone singing as opposed to Eddie made it feel like it didn't have to live up to any expectations, and consequentially they were willing to loosen up a bit.

one of the things I didn't like about mankind (or even who you are) at first was precisely that they felt lighter at a time when pearl jam meant SERIOUS to me.
