Creepy video aside does anyone know anything about this? Is it just a jam/ improv or is it a cover? It kinda sounds familiar.

 not new. I'm pretty sure it's from the birdman sessions actually, just wanted to know more about it.

Wasn't the leaking of Birdman the first step towards the modern overreacting, highly-litigious Pearl Jam?

"highly-litigious"? Who has been sued?

They don't sue people. They have their fan club manager call people at home to "straighten things out."

Even after all these years, their relationship with their fans is unlike any other band in the business!

I personally received a Cease and Desist within 57 seconds of posting that comment, B.

But really, didn't some website put these up, get informally asked to take them down, comply, and then get pestered legally anyway?

It's a melodramatic reading of how it went down, but no one else remembers this? My god, were people mad.
About a week later, a post appeared on Pearl Jam's official message board, apparently directly from the band, asking that all of the songs be removed from the site. They hadn't given permission for these songs to be transmitted, and were upset that they were being made public. The guy who ran TVM removed them immediately, and openly apologized for the situation. And, to all observers, that seemed like the end of it.

More than a month later, TVM's owner received a cease-and-desist, demanding that he shut down TVM, his fansite, and any site he was involved in that facilitated the trading of MP3's, VCD's, or any other "copyrighted Pearl Jam recording", with a lawsuit on the way if he failed to comply. Assumptions were made by most of the fanbase: this had to be Sony (PJ's label), not the band themselves. The band would never act so ruthlessly; this was a major-label move, not the move of a band who always made their requests directly to the fans.

We hoped for the best - we got the worst. Within a few hours, it was official - the cease-and-desist came directly from the band's lawyers.
And this guy didn't even steal Ed's boots for a day.

I don't think theres much worth keeping in them, i listen to that version of running out of time sometimes cause i really love eddies version of the song and its the only studio version there is, and theres this which is kinda cool. I really like that riff at the start. The '24 hours back in business boys, apb blah blah' bit sounded really familiar but google isnt giving me anything so its not a cover i guess.

i've always liked this one. my dream for eddie solo output was always this kind of stuff - basic, catchy, stripped down little rockers. i really wished that eddie would have taken that 3-piece, garage-y sound from his late 90's/early 00's solo appearances into the studio, but it looks like that ship has sadly sailed.

maybe there are some old tapes that will surface some day..

Sure, but pestering us is not the same as suing us.

The e-mail I got about Cold Confession and Let It Ride was something like, "Management told me to get these links taken down." I said, "OK." They said, "Thanks."

I don't even know if that qualifies as pestering. Of course, I didn't fight to find out what happens if I refuse.

Sometimes I like to start Mixes for people with Ed's answering machine message from the Birdman Sessions.

I remember it being a huge deal similar to that movie. Wasn't it like a private recording of a drunken session more than a proper studio session?

I thought it was ridiculous it became an issue. Those sessions are what music really is. People together, fucking around and having fun playing music. Vedder should be so lucky that fans want to hear that sort of shit. Better than studio polished bullshit :\

kind of not really. something.

I don't know how the other mods feel, but I think YouTube is fair game. Pearl Jam can and has removed stuff off of YouTube. It ain't my job to police that.
