Is Sleeping By Myself accompanied by the Leonardo DiCaprio photo? Is Sonic Reducer live, and also pre-2003? Is there another singer involved? Does Stone fuck up the bridge? Because these things might be a make-or-break for me.
I like SBM. Might be the only moment besides Manners on the new record that I have any response to at all. But I don't have the uke album, and have only listened to it maybe twice ever, so I didn't remember it near enough to have an opinion on it, prior to this release. If I had spent the last few years listening to it on a solo record, that might have fucked it up for me.
Anyway, I'm not voting in this one. One song is a cover that the band has offered as both a transcendental eruption of bile and as a public restroom poop smear. The other is a previously released (4 years is just not enough time to get an album's worth of good ideas together, I guess) whistle-along that is mostly fun for how it blends lyrical honesty about betrayal and the aftermath of infidelity with the following emotional core:

tell me what do you feel about the 60's where you had people like Nina Simone, Janis Joplin and The Bee Gees covering the same song within a couple of years, or Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Ike&Tina doing the same with a different one, Or for instance Aretha and Otis covering Same Cooke, or Aretha covering Nina, or Sam Cooke and The Doors recording the same song? Are all of those to be dismissed on principle? I'm confused because i think there's some good stuff in there.

1. Equating modern day Pearl Jam with Nina Simone or Sam Cooke (actual middle names of both mentioned artists: Fucking).
2. Equating multiple artists interpreting a benchmark song with Ed just calling a do-over on a tune he's already recorded.
3. Missing the part where I said I'm not voting because, where one is a terribly inconsistent cover, the other is "mostly fun for how it blends lyrical honesty about betrayal and the aftermath of infidelity with the following emotional core (insert picture)." Perhaps you misread that sentence as meaning "I would never vote for a song that has already been done before," rather than exactly not that implication at all.

Like I said, I like the song. It's just that I'm not "oh shit yeah" invested in it....and Sonic Reducer has been both infinitely better and infinitely worse.
