At first glance I thought this was "Smile" vs. "Education" and I thought, okay, easy enough. Now I think I'm going to have to sit on it for a couple days.

i hate those... what do you call em... "toms?" (I dont know drums), but yeah they suck and Evacuation isn't very good, though at least its trying.

From a compositional standpoint, I don't think they've written a better song than Evacuation.
There are plenty of songs I enjoy just as much that are a great deal simpler (Animal, Daughter, etc) but Evacuation really is staggeringly good in a way that stands alone in their catalogue.
I love Smile but credit where credit's due.

I know Evacuation gets crazy love around here, but it's just a "meh" song to me for the most part. I really have tried and tried to "get it", but the song just doesn't click with me. Smile on the other hand is one of my favorites, from my favorite album, so this one really isn't close. Smile, no doubt.

I am in the minority here, I know. Evacuation gets my mark.
Evacuation rocks. I've been listening to some 03 live versions, and they couldn't play this today if they wanted to. They'd fuck up the time changes and Ed would just sound stupid. But, as intended, it's a fucking rocking gem.
Smile is tough to vote against, I'll say its because Stone blows on bass
