Red Mosquito

So I have this second or third generation iPod, b&w LCD screen and touch wheel.
It's 16g. Thing is the battery died long ago and it doesn't work anymore.
I'm told I can get a replacement battery and it will work fine again.
Does anyone know of this is true?

It's a bit cheesy but it should give you some idea of what's involved. I have no idea what batteries go for, or where to get them. Ebay maybe but I don't know about reliability.

You could just pony up the cash to Apple. If you're out of warranty (with an old iPod I'm guessing you are) you're going to have to pay out $59 plus $6.95 shipping. Apple Battery Replacement Policy

Getting a replacement may be your best bet. Those old iPods use hard disks for storage and they're typically not that resilient. I too had an old iPod that lasted me for about six years and I was shocked that it was the battery that ended up failing and not those spinning platters. I'm not saying yours won't last you a few more years because I have no way of knowing. In your place I wouldn't spend over $60 on it though, I would try replacing it myself if you are up for it.

That reminds me, I need to replace the needle on mine.

My 3rd gen ipod still works great but the battery life is shit. I mostly use it on the dock at home now, but that's no big deal. Didn't know it was so cheap to replace the batteries now. A guy at work did his own and said the battery cost about $30. I would rather pay Apple to do it and not worry.

To me, it's absolutely absurd that it should be complicated to change the battery in an electronic device.
