The glaring misuse of "aforementioned" in Who You Are almost entirely cancels out its many strengths, it really bums me out.

How is it misused? It's referring to something previously stated in the song... sounds awkward, but it's used correctly...

That's the moss in the aforementioned verse
A basic definition of "aforementioned" is that it refers to a thing or person previously mentioned; it's a subsequent mention of something that's already been referred to at least once in the text being considered.
There's no other possible reading of the lyric above other than the previously mentioned thing being referred to is the preceding verse itself. Ed's error is that he treats the word as being synonymous with "previous" - the verse cannot be aforementioned as it hasn't even been mentioned once as of yet.

You may think he's being a stickler but Birds in Hell is correct. A good catch too as it's something I completely failed to pick up on over many years.
