Alive is too big for even this contest. I'm throwing Deep a bone as I'd much rather hear it today.

I'm always waiting for the guitar solo at the end of Alive and for it to finish so that I'm closer to Deep (on Ten).

There are probably only a few songs that could stand up to Alive. Deep isn't one of them.

I actually think "Deep" is the more accomplished song--the structure is tighter, the verses feel more "song-like," rather than just a free-verse ramble. Not that that's a bad thing inherently, but...vote for "Deep." There's a sense of menace to that song that's always appealed to me.

I'd trade in a late encore Alive for a mid-first set Deep any day of the week

Interesting. I find the verses to be the most underdeveloped part of Deep. There isn't much in terms of structure, lyrics and they are very short (like 18 seconds). The last verse is more drawn out but that one seems very improvised and free-verse.

I agree about the sense of menace being a strong virtue.

Deep has the kind of riff that often makes me think: "Stone, if it's still in you, please write something else like this very soon... please."
