Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Bassam "Barry" Al Fayeed, the younger son of the dictator of a war-torn nation, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland, accompanied by his American wife and children, for his nephew’s wedding. Barry’s reluctant homecoming leads to a dramatic clash of cultures as he is thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth.
The ensemble cast includes Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, Moran Atias, Noah Silver, Anne Winters, Fares Fares, Salim Daw, Justin Kirk, Jordana Spiro, Mehdi Dehbi, and Alice Krige.
Tyrant was created by Raff and developed by Gordon and Wright. David Yates directed the pilot, which was written by Raff and comes from Teakwood Lane, the shingle Gordon has set up at 20th Century Fox Television. Gordon, Raff and Wright are executive producers in association with Keshet Broadcasting. Tyrant is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions.

I got around to watching the first two episodes, not bad so far, I'll keep with it.

I liked the pilot...the second episode was "meh." The wife is annoying and blindly goes along with everything. Same with the kids. Still, I'll keep watching. It is summer.

I found the lead guy to be rather dull. There seems to be a lot of shows now where guys just stare vacantly and its considered intense acting. Even though it's kinda new to have a show set in the Middle East all the characters are such familiar archetypes you can see where everything is going. The out of control brother, the annoying the son, the wife whose trying to keep it all together, the emotionally distant father......I don't know.....I'll stick with it for a bit.

I mean, the show is ridiculously far fetched, but it's got potential.

Is anyone still watching this? I'm off this week and was thinking about watching the last 3 or whatever it is(I saw the first two.)

Yeah my wife and I still watch it. It's decent, although the American brother irritates me.

I wasnt crazy about the stereotypical pain in the ass wife character, it really doesnt work in this setting.

They kind of painted themselves into a corner. They'll have to do back flips to get Barry out of the mess he's in and make it even a little plausible. I can only think of a couple scenarios that might work.

The finale was so stupid but yet I still watched. Can they just make the show about Jamal?

Everytime a show like this gets renewed I feel the urge to bitch about the 5 shows I was into that got cancelled in the last 10 years.

You're still upset about FlashForward also, huh?

I'm pot commited, for at least one more season. Though it feels more like hate-watching than anything else with this show.
