A classic that quickly came and went. Album worthy to me.

When I saw the thread title - I initially confused this with Soldier of Love

I've long wanted a studio version of this, but I'm also not sure how much it'd add.

i look at this song like i do of the earth. i'd rather have the version we do as the only recording of it, than to have it not be out there at all (since they don't like to put out b-sides any more). and i cringe to think that it could be future days'd in a studio.

I was just thinking about that this weekend. I was listening to the Unplugged show and was thinking how young they sound (duh) but also how concerned Eddie was when he was asking if that other Eddie made it in. What a change 20 years can make.

i think there's still moments of genuine feelings for fans. i just don't think it necessarily occurs when they're writing songs and hocking their merch.

The "other" Eddie is actually 2014 Ed, who was visiting him in Sean Penn's time machine. Young Eddie was concerned cause Old Ed promised him some killer stock tips and/or weed.

But in the normal Grinch fashion,
he used that rapport
to sell for top dollar
what he'd bought in a store!

And as young Ed inhaled,
and found it quite wanting,
that evil old miser
with a grimace quite haunting,
said "Listen to me,
and I'll make you money!
Write songs about sirens.
Don't laugh, it's not funny!
Write songs about fixing,
about piled high plates!
But more than all that,
write songs about waves!
You don't have to edit.
No, don't worry at all.
They'll buy and they'll buy,
no matter the songs!

Now you've made it! Hooray!
You won't have a care!
Except, I've bad news
about the state of your hair...

It actually makes sense when you over-think it.
