Thom Yorke - Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes (2014)

As an experiment we are using a new version of BitTorrent to distribute a new Thom Yorke record.
The new Torrent files have a pay gate to access a bundle of files..
The files can be anything, but in this case is an ‘album’.
It’s an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around …
If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work.
Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves.
Bypassing the self elected gate-keepers.
If it works anyone can do this exactly as we have done.
The torrent mechanism does not require any server uploading or hosting costs or ‘cloud’ malarkey.
It’s a self-contained embeddable shop front…
The network not only carries the traffic, it also hosts the file. The file is in the network.
Oh yes and it’s called
Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes.

how does this thing sound? I can't download until this weekend
I'd love it to be more Thom and piano/guitar but I'm guessing it will sound a lot like the eraser

Haha, nice zeb. I'm bought this yesterday but haven't taken the time to download yet
I've heard the mother lode is a pretty good song

I'll probably listen to it more than I did the Atoms For Peace record but less than I have listened to The Eraser.

Kind of silly you can only get the FLAC files if you buy the vinyl bundle, otherwise it's only MP3.
I listened to the free song and it didn't make much of an impression but I'll give it a shot, I liked both The Eraser and the Atoms For Peace record (though I thought the latter was really dull on first listen).

Yeah, nothing really grabs on first listen - will give it a few more.
Sounds like a collection of left over ideas rather than an album as such. Hopefully saving the good stuff for the new Radiohead album.

One listen down, and it's okay. The middle stretch drags, but there's good stuff at the beginning and end of the album.
